It seems there are so many types of paints available. In fact, a quick trip to the local home improvement store can be mind numbing with all the different brands and types. Fortunately, a little bit of information can help clear away much of the confusion.
First, take notice that there are really a few fundamental “truths” about paint that can be contorted into numerous variations including color and sheen. Paint is broadly divided into “exterior” or “interior” versions meaning outside or inside the house or structure. Choosing the right paint in interior house paint prices in Highland Park is important. This division is created as the abuse the paint will encounter is different depending on its location. For instance, an outside paint will be subjected to near constant UV exposure and could fade as a result whereas an interior paint will not have nearly as much exposure. As a result, paint is formulated differently. Make sure you are purchasing the correct version for any project you are undertaking.
Another advantage to latex paints is that they contain very few, if any VOCs (volatile organic compounds). These evaporate as the paint dries and help impart that distinctive paint odor. By using latex paint you avoid most of the uncomfortable odor that VOCs cause.
Also, be sure to buy a quality paint which usually means the more expensive paint. In many areas of shopping, the expensive item is not necessarily that much better than and lesser cost item. However, with paint, you get what you pay for. The premium paints will hold their color longer and last longer as compared to their lower costs partners. Now, I would think twice about paying more for designer branded paints such as Ralph Lauren or Martha Stewart. To be fair, I have no experience with these paints but the higher cost there with these products might be to pay for the endorsement without an increase in quality. Again, that is just my speculation. However, if you stay with normal brand name paints like Benjamin Moore, Sherwin William and others the price (and warranty time) does tend to indicate quality and durability. As such, buy the better paint - you will be happier in the long run.
With any luck, some of the vagaries of painting have been removed and you will feel more confident speaking with paint pro at paint store or home improvement outlet. Now, which color to pick - that is completely different journey in its own special way! Happy brushing!
