People use house painting services for many reasons. Sometimes they just want a paint color change, or need to boost the curb appeal of their house, or maybe get ready to sell their home. Regardless of the reason, use the following money-saving tips when you start your next interior or exterior house painting project.
Sounds counter-intuitive, but if you keep surfaces protected by paint, you will have less maintenance issues to deal with. Homeowners delay exterior painting with the thought that it will save them money, but in the long run they incur more expenses from problems they don’t notice until it’s too late.
Paint will begin to crack, allowing moisture in that causes mold, mildew, dry rot and water damage. Instead of paying for a new coat of paint you may end up paying for costly repairs.
The largest portion of an exterior painting job will come from the labor costs. And if you have hidden damage, you will end up spending more since there will be more preparation required, such as scraping, sanding, caulking, priming as well as other repairs.
It’s more economical to schedule regular maintenance, including exterior painting. If you keep the surfaces maintained you may be able to have a paint crew wash the siding and paint one coat and you will be good to go.
Interior House paint price in Northbrook should not be the deciding factor when choosing a painting contractor either. Make a checklist of what you need done and make sure that each contractor includes these items in his bid. You can’t assume that a contractor will prep the surface beyond a quick washing. If you choose your contractor on price only, you may end up paying twice when you have to pay another contractor to redo the original work.
You might not think there is a right time to paint, but there is. Painting contractors have slow seasons just like other businesses.
Most exterior painting contractors are looking for work in March and November. This is due to the fact that the weather will play a part in when they can work. If you are flexible, try to schedule house painting during these months.
Interior painters are usually slower in the winter months. And August and all major holidays are good times to schedule any home improvement painting project.
Check with your local painting contractors to see if they are running any special promotions. Tell them you are flexible; ask for a reduced rate and to be scheduled during one of their slow periods.
