Having a spacious backyard tempts many homeowners to add a garden deck. It enhances not only the beauty of the area but serves an important purpose of providing a space for the family where they can relax and even eat together.
With a deck connected to their main house, families literally have an extension of their abode where they can unwind and enjoy nature even just within the four corners of their residential property. Whatever its size, you and your family can be sure to enjoy the area for a long time.
Wood remains to be a popular choice for both decks and railings. They’re not only environment friendly but they’re also attractive and appealing to the eyes as well as warm to the touch.
The most recommended types of wood are the cedar and redwood primarily due to their durability. The Brazilian hardwood called Ipe has also become a popular alternative these days because of its cheaper cost.
When planning for your deck railings, a very important consideration is their safety. With redwood and cedar, you can be sure of that you and your family members will be protected while on your favorite deck area. You just have to make sure, though, that the rails are properly installed and secured well using metal connectors, bolts, lag screws and washers. These will be needed for connecting the stairs and railings to the main deck frame.
After installing your deck and railings, you still need to ensure that they’re protected from the harmful elements of nature. It’s not because you have durable wood does not mean you will just let them be exposed without the proper protection. If humans use sunblock cream, lotion or spray nowadays to keep the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays away from them, you have to do the same for your wooden deck and railings. Remember that they’re situated outdoors and therefore exposed to different kinds of weather which can cause moisture as well as the growth of and molds and mildew.
Some materials you can use to protect your wooden decks are sealers and stains. To protect it against the UV rays, the best way is to apply deck painting in Kenilworth or clear wood sealer which can prevent moisture buildup. The sealer also maintains the natural look of your wood. Applying oil to the wood is another measure you can take to enhance the beauty of your deck rails and to achieve a finish that can resist all types of weather.
In general, keep in mind to choose the wood material that fits your budget and then never forget its regular maintenance.
